The sensor is only active in high and turbo output settings. The sensor drops the output to medium brightness to prevent the light from overheating when it detects an obstruction in front of the lens. Will the charging port on the rear end short-circuit by sticking the magnet to the metal? Yes, it will cause a short circuit and possibly damage the product.
