Tl;dr - 10 days across Europe in 90+ degree heat, heavy rain several days, and 10+ miles of walking a day - zero issues. Our Europe trip had a dark cloud over it - a storm system was moving through Hungary and Austria during our planned vacation. Having had stellar experience with Keen in the past, I looked for a last minute waterproof, yet breathable shoe for the 10 day adventure and settled on this shoe. I ordered it on Amazon Prime, and it showed up just in time for the trip. I didn’t have time to break the shoe in, and wore it the next day to the airport as the only pair of shoes I brought on the trip. The shoes are comfortable, light, absolutely waterproof, have solid traction for on and off road excursions - and they breathe well. Keep in mind, this is a waterproof shoe - if you expect it to breathe like a pair of crocs, or a knit running shoe - those aren’t reasonable expectations. It breathes far better than a pair of leather shoes, and will out perform (breathability) most traditional running/walking shoes that aren’t specifically designed to have high levels of breathability. Given that this is a waterproof shoe - that’s a big deal…. But again, have reasonable expectations.Despite nearly every day being 90+ degrees with tropical levels of humidity, these shoes (with quality wool socks) were never uncomfortably hot and were essentially a non-issue.I’m always impressed with the quality of Keen products, and this continues the trend. I wish they made a “made in America” option for this style of shoe - as their American made lines are a meaningful and worthwhile investment in heightened levels of quality - but I digress. This shoe outperformed my expectations, and was an absolute treat to travel with. Highly recommend.I am a licensed hvac tech and journeyman electrician.I work on condo roof tops in Florida year round in the rain , usually in 2 inches of water . This is the second pair of this particular keen shoe I have bought in 3 years and I will never buy anything else . I normally burn through work shoes every 4 to 6 months . They are absolutely water proof which means they are shock proof . They are also so light that putting on a different pair of shoes for work is basically torture. Plus they are keens so they are really comfortable.I'll compare these to my old pair of Targhee III Keens. The general fit is very similar. This shoe has a generous toe box, which I like. Laces do not go quite as far down the top of the foot as Targhee III, but still plenty of room for adjusting the fit. They feel slightly lighter than T-III. The entire sole, especially the heel, provides a much more cushioned step. The tread seems more rubbery and grippy. Over-all they feel generally softer, so it remains to be seen if they will be as durable. So far, for me, they are great. These shoes are what you're probably thinking they are. They're very comfortable, fit well (to-size -- I wear the same size in Keen and Merrell), have an extra roomy toe box without the heel being loose (which I love), supportive enough for all-day hikes, and the waterproofing works well. They're well made, and light-weight with a very grippy outsole. However, they're on-par with the Merrell Moab 2 hiking shoes I also have. They're the only other comparable full-tilt hiking shoe I've owned, so I can only compare them to each other. Both are phenomenal shoes, the most comfortable I've ever worn. The NXIS may be slightly more comfortable than the Moab, but almost negligibly so, both have about equal traction in all terrains, and the Moab has slightly longer outsole lugs, which means they probably will end up lasting longer before traction starts to degrade. Either one is way more comfortable, and has much higher longevity (both lug depth and durability), than the Solomon hikers I had previously. The bottom line, to me, is the price. These are about 40% more expensive than the equivalent Moab 2 shoes are, which are already somewhat pricey. Are they better than the Moab? Maybe. Probably. Are they $50 / 40% better than the Moab? Not at all.So if money is no object and you like the look of these better, get them. If you want to be seen in the 'more expensive' shoe (for what that's worth in your circle), get them. But you probably won't notice any advantage at all over the Moab for your money.I really like these boots but they are just that. If you’re looking for a lightweight trail shoe these probably aren’t them. They’re a bit heavy and bulky, but They're definitely well made. Thinking about returning them and getting the high top version.I was concerned about comfort, and was not disappointed. The size is consistent with my other Keen footwear. I love the black mesh design with yellow accents. The footbed is very comfortable. I think the shoe is a bit pricey, but that might be my only negative comment about them.Feels good.Love the shoe, but it feels a little clunky. Waterproof - oh yeah. Sizing - nails the size and has the added space in the toe box my feet have come to love. But… a little pricey - if they last like my other Keens then the value will be there. Not the best shoes for me. I found the toebox way too large and the sides of the shoe painfully bump up against my ankle bone when I pronate on uneven surfaces, which of course is not noticed when worn in the house prior to hitting the trails. They are well-made shoes, great for rocky terrain, and being waterproof was my objective, but this style leaves me regretting the purchase. I recommend you try these on locally before ordering so you are not out $200. Too late to return now. These shoes fit big and do not breatheLike it, use it for traii hiking and running, it is light and comfortable for me?
