Description

The Pro Tac HL USB is a versatile tactical light that can charge from multiple sources and use three battery types: Streamlight’s P/N 74175 rechargeable lithium-ion battery, two CR123A batteries, or a proprietary Streamlight Li-Ion USB rechargeable battery pack. (See Battery detail below). This light will charge from a laptop or most USB wall chargers. Multi-battery versatility means you can always use primary disposable cells to power the light when a charging source is not available. Designed for use in all markets, it features a tail cap switch for momentary or constant on operation, three different user-selectable programs, and a pocket clip for convenience. The aluminum housing with Type II Military Spec anodizing helps make the light extremely durable and abrasion resistant. Packaged with a removable pocket clip and holster. Available in Black.

---INITIAL IMPRESSIONS---So far I'm very impressed with this flashlight. It feels very solid (all metal construction). Having the ability to recharge this flashlight through the built-in micro-USB port is really nice. There is no worrying about burning through batteries. The included cigarette lighter USB adapter is a nice bonus as well.---USB Charging---The USB charging port is exposed by sliding down the part of the flashlight below the lens (but above the belt clip). When the USB port is covered back up, this sliding piece slides over a gasket to keep water out. When it's closed it feels very solid and secure. Inside the 74175 rechargeable battery appears to be replaceable with an 18650 battery - so it should work fine if you had to use it with CR123A batteries (though I haven't tried this). There is an indicator light that's red while it's charging and turns green when it's charged. Mine came with the battery completely dead - it took several hours of charging before I could use it. For some reason when I was trying to first charge it the red light didn't want to come on and the flashlight wouldn't turn on even after being plugged in for several minutes (I thought it was broken) - after being plugged in for about 15 minutes however the red light turned on and it continued to charge. Maybe the battery was just really dead. Also I've noticed that when the battery gets too low the flashlight seems to just shut off rather than getting dimmer over time.---OPERATION---I also like how the flashlight operates. Unlike other tactical flashlights I've had that cycle through the modes with each press of the button, this flashlight always cycles between on (full power) and off with each full button press. To activate the strobe feature, you quickly half press the button before fully clicking it. To activate the low power mode, half press the button twice before fully clicking it. While this procedure took a little bit of time to get the hang of, it becomes second nature pretty quickly. I rarely find myself accidently turning it on to the wrong mode. The operation I described above is the flashlight's default programming - but apparently the flashlight can be set so that one press is low power mode, half a press then a full press is medium power, and two half-presses then a full press is full power mode. Also the flashlight can be programmed so that only full power mode can be activated to avoid accidently activating other modes I assume.---PERFORMANCE---The high lumen output is the main reason why I wanted this flashlight. At first when I turned it on indoors it was bright, but it wasn't until I used it outdoors that this flashlight was really impressive. It's really great for lighting up large areas outside. I was impressed at how well it lit up everything while shining it across a parking lot. Though it isn't adjustable, I liked the focus of the beam. It wasn't too spread out and diffused but it wasn't too narrow either. I'd say the light itself is more yellow (warmer) than other flashlights I've used - but not as warm in color as an older style of flashlight with a filament bulb. The low-power mode is pretty dim and not something I will likely use much, but it's nice to have the option to conserve power just in case. I haven't really used the flashlight in medium power mode. Finally the strobe feature works very well. Comparing it to other strobe LED flashlights, this flashlight's strobe seems to be faster and more disorienting.
