I was looking for a travel tripod for astrophotography. Something that could support a full-frame DSLR + a wide angle lens for milky way photography. I have several other tripods that work well (Manfrotto and Induro) but they are too big for my carryon or camera bag, and a bit heavy to hike around with (so is the camera gear but that's another story). After looking at various options I decided on this model since it offers reasonable operating height, 5 part legs to fold up to a compact 14", light weight, and decent sturdiness. As to the last part I was swayed by the slightly beefier legs of this model. There are others with smaller diameter leg sections going down to as little as 10mm and I thought that might be too thin for reasonable sturdiness. I'm happy with the tripod so far. I haven't had a chance to use it for astrophotography yet, but it seems to be capable of doing the job.
